Elder abuse is a serious issue that is occurring in communities around us. Many are unaware of how to identify elder abuse. It is pertinent that we educate each member of society regarding elder abuse. It is our duty to protect these senior citizens in our community.  Furthermore, researching reasons elder abuse may occur can help reduce the number of cases reported. If we are able to identify what triggers elder abuse we can help caregivers receive the assistance they need.

Additionally, if their is a senior citizen you know, that you anticipate has been a victim of elder abuse, please report it immediately. You can call adult protective services and they will investigate the matter and provide aid to the senior. Please provide the senior with information regarding agencies and services available to them in their community.

If you would like to raise awareness in your community there are several options. First, try and organize support groups in your city to support and raise awareness for senior citizens. Second, encourage those in your social network to volunteer with agencies advocating for elders. Third, research elder abuse and find out what opportunities for seniors are lacking and advocate for those needs.
