The proposed legislation will definitely impact the problem. The legislation aims to highlight and focus on senior citizens and their well-being. The core causes of elder abuse are the vulnerabilities of the elderly. Many families of the elderly must care for the elderly when they are incapable of caring for themselves. Care does not only constitute providing shelter it also constitutes providing them a safe, healthy, and loving environment for them to grow old in.

In addition, senior citizens may suffer from loss of memory whether it is due to dementia, Alzheimer’s, or simply old age. Furthermore, this bill would, “establish a department of justice that will be in charge of following up and enforcing the investigation, prosecution, pursuance, prevention, and understanding of how to lessen elder abuse in society (Library of Congress, 2011).”

With an increasing case load of reported Elder Abuse it is important to increase the number of staff at all agencies across the United States to help eliminate these cases of elder abuse. Without the proper staffing or funding it is an arduous task to protect seniors from their abusers and offer them the safe havens they deserve.
