Paying Bills During Divorce
A divorce doesn't stop bills from coming through the door. However, it's important that during a divorce the bills are paid fairly and evenly. Here are a few ways to ensure that happens. First, determine what bills you ahve including both individual and joint debts. Then, decide whether each debt was incurred jointly or as an individual. Divide the rest of the debts up according to who is able to pay them and how each utility that incurred the debt was used.
Make sure you obtain a court order to ensure that whoever is responsible for each bill pays for it. Finally, track your spouse's payment on these debts to make sure you aren't held responsible for them.
