If you are in an abusive relationship and have a child with your abuser, you can ask the court for help. They will issue a domestic violence restraining order which will help protect you and your child from further harassment. As well as the restraining order, you can also file for child custody, visitation and child support orders at the same time.
When deciding on the details of a child custody and visitation order, the judge may send you to mediation where you'll be able to bring someone for support or you can ask the court to schedule your mediation appointments separately from the person in question of the abuse to reduce the amount of contact you will have with them.
