In New York a civil union has ended and mommy has abducted the parties’ then 7 year old daughter fleeing to Managua Nicaragua.  The saga began when Lisa Miller is said to have met Janet Jenkins on or about 1997 at an AA meeting in Falls Church Virginia. The same sex couple began dating entered into a civil union and wanted to have children. Ms. Miller became pregnant thru the use of invitro fertilization. Their daughter Isabella Ruth Miller-Jenkins was born on April 16, 2002. The couple moved to southern Vermont and Isabella called Ms. Jenkins “mama” and Ms. Miller “mommy.”
As in many relationships the parties began to experience issues. Ms. Miller turned to Christianity and began to question her lesbianism and the couples legal battle began for determination of which one of the parties was mom to Isabella. At first a Virginia court agreed with Ms. Miller and did not order any visitation for Ms. Jenkins and for about two years mama Jenkins did not visit with her daughter. The matter was reviewed by the Virginia Supreme Court, who then determined that Jurisdiction lied in the State of Vermont. The Vermont court then made a visitation order allowing Ms. Jenkins visitation with Isabella.
Mommy Miller often thwarted Mama Jenkins court ordered visitation and was found in contempt, when the Judge stated that a change in custody was possible mommy Miller fled with Isabella with the assistance of Ken Miller and a Mennonite Pastor. The FBI is searching Nicaragua for Mommy Miller and the now 10 year old Isabella has not seen her Mama.  The 10 year old child is told that Mama Jenkins will not go to heaven unless “she accepts Christ as her personal savior.”
