Life After Divorce
Domestic Violence: Common and Intolerable

Other than you and your partner, the people who will be most effected by the divorce will be the children. Children are still young and cannot grasp the fact that their parents, whom they saw as one entity, will be separated. They do not understand the fact that they will have to spend half their time with mom at a different location and the other half with dad at yet another foreign location. Even if your unhappiness was clear and obvious and your children questioned why you and your partner stayed in a marriage, the breakdown of a familiar family structure will be devastating. The following are some clues that your child is having difficultly dealing with the divorce:
1) Are the kids siding with one or the other parent?

2) Are the kids clinging to each other more?

3) Are the kids hanging around the house more and refusing to go places like a friend’s house or a birthday party?

4) Is there a change in how the kids are performing in school or in other activities?
