Talking about divorce with your kids can be difficult no matter what their age but here are several phrases that you should never use when approaching this topic with your children.

-Your Mother/Father is.....
-I don't want to get a divorce from your Mom/Dad, but your Mom/Dad doesn't want to work on it with me...
-If you didn't cause so many problems, your Mom/Dad wouldn't get so upset all the time....
-What does your Mom/Dad say about me when I'm not around?
-If you need something, just ask your Mom/Dad. I send him/her child support and that's what the money is for...

These phrases, or phrases of this nature can greatly injure your child's self esteem and they may blame themselves for your separation. Don't put your child through this.
