Be Careful of Texting & Facebook

Financial Advice for Single Parents
The Relationship Between Tax and Divorce

For couples planning on getting a divorce or in the process of getting a divorce, be careful of texting and Facebook because, surprisingly, they can be used against you in court. According to one survey conducted by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, 81 percent of the members of the organization have seen an increase in the use of evidence taken from social networking sites during the previous five years. 66 percent of lawyers in the organization chose Facebook as the most popular site to take evidence from. According to another survey by this organization, 92 percent of respondents said that they have seen an increase in the number of cases using evidence taken from cellular phones.

Many believe that such casual social networks cannot possibly provide sufficient and credible evidence. However a history of texts and comments on Facebook can be credible evidence that can indicate the dishonesty in a person. So what’s our advice? Do not write anything that can come back to haunt you. Words are power, and written words are more powerful in the court.
