California Law classifies “domestic violence” as abuse that has been perpetrated against a spouse, cohabitant, former spouse, or former cohabitant.
Domestic violence perpetrated by one's present or previous dating partner or fiancé is also domestic violence, as is violence committed against the parent of a child by the other parent. California also expands its identification of domestic violence to mistreatment committed by family members.
Accusations of domestic violence are extremely critical. If factual, they have an effect on the victim not only bodily but also emotionally.
If false, the person against whom the accusations were made is called to defend himself or herself.
The State of California inflicts criminal charges on persons who have committed domestic violence and who have disobeyed an abuse prevention order.
