Adoption in Orange County CA - Types of Adoption

What if the child wants a driver's license?

You have the right to give the child permission to obtain a driver's license or not.

If you choose to let the child obtain a diver's license, you are obligated to also get automobile insurance for the child as well as with any legal driver.
If an accident occurs while the child is behind the wheel, you may be held responsible to pay for any damages.

What if the child wants to enlist in the military?

You may give the child permission to enlist in the military, however under California law, the guardianship will end if the child ever enters into active duty with the armed forces because the child will then be considered an adult (emancipated).

What if the child wants to get married?

Under California Law, both you and the court must give the child permission to marry.

Once the child is married, guardianship will end and California law considers the child to now be an adult (emancipated).
