If you are beginning the divorce process you will need to fill out a petition and summons and serve the opposing party. If you are the first for to file for divorce you will be known as the petitioner throughout the divorce process. The party that will be responding to the divorce petition will be known as the respondent.
It is important to converse with a legal professional to ensure that you are responding to all of the court deadlines in a timely manner. If you do not respond to the court in a timely manner you can be in default. If you are in default the court reserves the right to proceed without you present at the court hearing.
