A domestic partnership is when two individuals are in an intimate and committed relationship with each other in which they live together and share their lives together as well as share a common domestic life but aren't joined in a union like marriage or a civil union.
To be domestic partners, you must:
-File a notarized Declaration of Domestic Partnership with the California Secretary of State,
-Live at the same residence,
-Not be related,
-Not be married,
-Be 18 years or older,
-Be the same sex OR one/both of them is over 62 years of age and eligible for Social Security.
