When you are starting a divorce procedure, there are several options you have to choose from. These options will determine how much professional legal representation you have and there are pros and cons to each. You can choose from:
-Full lawyer representation which means you'd be with an attorney throughout the court proceedings. You might also apply and qualify for free or low-cost representation if you have low income.
-Limited attorney representation is when you hire a lawyer for help with only some of the divorce process.
-Mediation which is when a resolution is reached through negotiations with you and your spouse/domestic partner. A mediator will be present and this is all done without going to court.
-Self representation is when you represent yourself and act as your own attorney
The course of action you take will all depend on your own personal situation as all divorces are different. Things like cost, time, children, control level will all affect the choice you make. Either way, it is recommended that you have an attorney review your divorce agreement before you sign and finalize anything.
